Review of the Aquaculture Legislation
Recognising that a regulatory knot had stifled aquaculture development following the lifting of the moratorium on aquaculture in 2004, early last year the Government formed an Aquaculture Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to provide it with recommendations “to enable the development of sustainable aquaculture.”

The TAG was chaired by the Hon Sir Douglas Kidd (a former Minister of the Crown and Minister of Fisheries) and included Mike Burrell (CEO Aquaculture NZ), Dennis Bush-King (Manager Environment & Planning Department, Tasman District Council), Mark Farnsworth (Chairperson, Northern Regional Council), Nici Gibbs (Policy Manager, SeaFIC), Keir Volkering (Iwi Consultant) and Kirsty Woods (Manager Fisheries Leadership Team – Te Ohu Kai Moana Trustee Limited).

Takutai Annual plans and reports
This draft annual plan is prepared in accordance with section 36 of the Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act, and the Funding Agreement between Te Ohu Kaimoana Trustee Ltd and the Minister and Ministry of Fisheries. The plan outlines our work programme for 2009 – 10 that are consistent with our duties under the Act. In doing so, the plan will provide the Crown with the information it needs to ensure it has a sufficient appropriation through Parliament, and to account for those activities that are Crown funded.
