About Us
Takutai Trust is the working name of the Maori Aquaculture Settlement Trust. Takutai Trust was established to deal with the allocation of water-space in the coastal marine area to Iwi Aquaculture Organisations.
The Maori Commercial Aquaculture Claims Settlement Act (MCACSA) came into effect on 1 January 2005, and provides a full and final settlement of Maori commercial aquaculture interests since 21 September 1992.
MCACSA provides iwi with assets equivalent to 20% of the water space created in coastal waters since 21 September 1992.
This includes the rights to 20% of any new space when new Aquaculture Management Areas (AMAs) are established after 1 January 2005.
